As a musician who is married to a musician, we of course want to raise our toddler to follow in our footsteps and enjoy music too! That’s why we (and many of our friends and family) have gifted him lots of toys that can help him explore the beautiful world of music! If you’re trying to figure out which toys make the best gifts (and the least amount of obnoxious noise), look no further. Here are a few of my personal favorite musical toys my toddler has!
1. Baby Einstein Strum Along Guitar
This is a favorite of mine and my toddler’s. This guitar has two settings: one that makes silly noises which appeals to younger babies and one that plays actual chords. When you press the button, the guitar plays a little tune that your child can strum along to and most of the tunes are not just the typical nursery rhymes, but are actually pretty catchy and not annoying to go around the house humming (in my opinion anyway). I love that this toy can grow with him and he will be able to get a few years of use out of it.
2. Baby Einstein Magic Touch Wooden Piano
This is another favorite in our household. Again, this toy does not just play the typical nursery rhymes, but classical tunes. It has four settings: piano, xylophone, dog barking, and cat meowing. This allows your child to play the piano and hear the notes in a silly way as well as a more serious musical way. The toy comes with little cards that color code the keys to teach your child how to play the different songs. When your child plays the song correctly, the piano applauds your child and then plays the song which I find to be such a cute way to encourage your child to play piano.
3. Hape Pound and Tap Bench with Xylophone
This toy is a two-in-one that encourages fine motor development and musical abilities. Your child can use the hammer to hit the balls through the hole which causes them to slide down the xylophone or they can slide the xylophone out and use the hammer to hit the xylophone directly. The xylophone may be noisy, but it is a simple way to allow your child to express themselves through music.
4. Nuby Turtle Tamborine Bath Toy
There’s nothing quite like the classic tambourine! It doesn’t make an obnoxious amount of noise and it can be used in the bathtub (and it’s BPA-free)! My toddler loves playing with this toy because it is a simple way for him to make music. All he has to do is shake it! This is perfect for children who want to make music, but haven’t quite developed the motor skills that some of these toys require.
5. Vtech Touch and Teach Sea Turtle
This toy has seemingly endless things to explore. It has piano keys on the bottom and has a music setting where each page and each button plays a song. It also has educational settings that teach things like the alphabet, numbers, and different sea creatures! It makes a bit more noise, but it does have two volume settings so you can make it quieter if you need to!
These are just a few of my favorite musical toys. Music is such an important part of child development and finding the best quality (and least annoying) toys can be hard, but hopefully this helped you come up with some ideas!
